I'm posting this two days after I attended Dave Cockrum's memorial. I'd like to thank my friend, Irene, for inviting me along and Paul Levitz for holding the memorial. It was funny, sweet and touching; especially Paty's recounting of how they first met. I wish that I'd had the courage to get up in front of people to say something, but I feel really outclassed by Harlan Ellison. However, here I will say my little piece.
During the time I was at Marvel, there were four guys who stood out for being big, blond and bearded: John Byrne, Chris Claremont, Duffy Vohland, and Dave. The jolliest was Dave and if there had been anyone who could've played Santa Claus for 365 then it would've been him. Even years later when he was at I-Con in a wheelchair and unfortunately the last time I got to see him, he was still friendly and upbeat.
Dave, you are missed.
